Announcing the Lyrics Quiz 2025!

Big changes afoot...

Kia ora koutou my quizzing lovelies!

Upon reflection on how burnt out I was in general last year, and the desire to try and hold more space for myself this year, I’m making some changes to the lyrics quiz.

For the past…many years (since at least 2020, by my estimation), I’ve been running this quiz under the familiar format: 4 terms of 10 weeks, 6 songs a quiz. To paraphrase Love, Actually: “240 is a lot of songs, David”.

There are many, many things wrong with Love, Actually, but this line remains an unproblematic fave.

So this year I’m changing it up. Instead of 4 terms of 10 weeks, I’m going 5 terms of 5 weeks each; instead of 6 songs each week, I’m going to just have 5.

Some things definitely won’t change: I’ll still be doing hints, the Hardest Quiz will ride again, and I’d love it if people want to be guest quizsetters.

I hope this will help strike the right balance between giving me a bit of time and brainspace back, but also continuing to provide a fun quiz experience for you all. If it doesn’t work? We rethink and we try again!

So! With that announced, I hope you’re looking forward to the first quiz of 2025, which will drop on Monday 10 February.
